Russia is once again using food as a weapon, this time with global repercussions, threatening food supplies and livelihoods of people of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, dependent on commodities grown in the breadbasket of the world – Ukraine. Ukraine maintains, even in times of war, an uninterrupted flow of Russian gas to European markets.īut perhaps the most acutely felt threat is food-related. Its economic practicality is also questionable. The political nature of the pipeline as part of Moscow’s plan to weaponise Europe’s hydrocarbons dependence has been proven by recent deliberate delays of gas supply. For years, Poland and Ukraine have been vocal opponents of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

Russia's military aggression against Ukraine has a profound impact on global energy markets and governance, drastically changing the perception of the Russian Federation as a safe and trusted energy supplier. Not since Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990 has the threat to global energy security been as severe as it is today. Otherwise, Russia will endlessly conduct its war of attrition with irreversible consequences for Ukrainian, European, and global security. We have to adopt more severe restrictive measures to impede Putin’s war efforts. We have to provide Ukraine with more financial assistance. We have to supply Ukraine with more efficient and advanced military equipment. The international community must tirelessly continue supporting Kyiv’s efforts to prevail over the threat from its dangerous eastern neighbour. With hundreds of tanks, dozens of armoured personnel carriers, and a number of howitzers, to name just a few, Warsaw has been providing strong military aid to boost the capabilities and resilience of Kyiv in defending its territorial integrity and sovereignty and protect its civilian population against the Russian aggression. These two momentous developments, and various others, confirm our brotherhood, unity, and continued support.īeyond the symbolic gestures, Poland has shown tangible assistance to Ukraine. Two months later, Poland's president became the first world leader since Russia's invasion to address in-person the Ukrainian parliament, which followed him being the last head of state to be in Kyiv before the attack. In a symbolic gesture of solidarity with Ukraine in its fight for freedom against tyranny, Poland's prime minister visited the war-torn country as the first Western leader to do so. Moscow's unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against its neighbour has brought Warsaw and Kyiv closer together than they have ever been. By providing politico-diplomatic and technical support as well as military and humanitarian aid, the people and the government of Poland have proven that they are more than just Ukraine's neighbours. Warsaw has been the strongest and most vocal supporter of deterrence of Russia by the ever-growing pressure caused by imposing sanctions. Poland has stood shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine, symbolically and literally, not only since the first day of the Russian invasion, but also long before it.

Full solidarity and unwavering support from allies around the world, including Ukraine's vital ally, Poland, will ensure that the war against Putin is a victorious one. Whilst Ukraine is at the forefront of the struggle for freedom in the modern world, the country and its people are not alone in their ferocious bravery in the face of Russian aggression. Six months on to the day, in Ukraine Vladimir Putin fights with missiles and tanks, in Europe he fights with gas prices, and elsewhere in the world he fights with food shortages and disinformation. The largest military attack of one state against another in Europe since the Second World War came after months of Russia's categorical denials of its plan to invade neighbouring Ukraine It was inspired by the imperialist Russkiy Mir ideology, which rejects Ukraine's legitimacy as a sovereign nation, denies the existence of Ukrainian national identity and dehumanises Ukrainians.

At 5am on 24 February this year, Russia launched an all-out assault on Ukraine by land, air, and sea, inflicting death, causing widespread suffering, and creating heavy infrastructure damage.
